The world map Tyvek® jacket by Leslie Jordan Inc. ATOPOS cvc Collection

In the context of the RRRIPP!! Research Programme, ATOPOS cvc participates in the Association of Dress Historians’ on-line lecture and conversation series, on Monday, February 1st at 7.00pm GMT.
Myrsini Pichou, ATOPOS RRRIPP!! Collection Research Advisor, will present the history of Tyvek® with objects from the ATOPOS cvc collection.
In 2020, Tyvek® became widely known as the most effective personal protective equipment (PPE) in the fight against COVID-19 for the uniforms of medical staff. Since its invention in the 1950s by DuPont Company, this non-woven and paper-like material has also been used in fashion by contemporary designers, such as Hussein Chalayan, Walter Van Bereindonck, Hugo Boss, Helmut Lang and Yoshiki Hishinuma, amongst others.
Apart from creations by the aforementioned designers, the RRRIIPP!! Collection includes a Tyvek® jacket by Leslie Jordan Inc. with the global map printed on it that inspired the American poet James Merrill (1926-1995) for his famous poem “Self-portrait in Tyvek® windbreaker” (1992).
