Alexis Fidetzis discusses with art historian Panagiotis Bikas a collection of British cartoons of the early 19th century that directly or indirectly concern Greece and the revolution of 1821.
Through this archive one gains access to an alternative western gaze, which is very different from the image presented to us by the more well-known depictions of the struggle that emerge from the philhellenic movement. At the same time, through these comic illustrations, we can see the relationship of the great European powers both towards each other and with the Ottoman Empire and the Greeks who at the time try to claim their autonomy.
