In the context of the exhibition on view at the Fashion Research Library, Polyrhythmia in Paper, Vassilis Zidianakis will present ”The Best Way to Wrap your Body in Paper”; a performative unfolding of the Issey Miyake paper garments currently on display. This unfolding will culminate in the live dressing of models and selected participants. Mediating bodies remain central, as the exhibition explores the embodied archive, a concept brought into focus through this live encounter between paper, form, and body.

The event will take place on Friday the 20th of March, during the 2026 edition of the Fashion Research Symposium, an ongoing collaboration between the National Museum of Norway and International Library of Fashion Research. The symposium is an annual event for research, knowledge-sharing and critical discourse around fashion. The theme for 2026 is “The Body, Exhibited”. This year’s edition of Fashion Research Symposium draws inspiration from Polyrhythmia in Paper,  and returns to an ever present topic, namely the representation of the body in fashion exhibitions. As the late Japanese designer Issey Miyake famously once said about his work, “My design is not for philosophy, it’s for life”, and perhaps this connection between fashion, dress and the living is the most central and difficult thing that continues to haunt fashion and dress curators alike.
