The American designer and director Carlos Soto (b. 1980) was inspired by Stéphane Mallarmé. A duplicate ‘Bandana’ dress, which together with the ‘Op Art’ paper dress were the first two paper dresses launched in 1966 by Mars Manufacturing Company, was given to him. He created an installation entitled ‘Such Things I Do to Make Myself More Attractive to You’ with a box and traces of a paper suit with gloves. A sentimental work, Soto’s work is one of the most theatrical pieces which resulted from the project.
