ATOPOS cvc x Office of Hydrocommons is collaborating with Art Explora within the framework of Mediterranean Crossed Residency. This initiative celebrates our shared geography —the Mediterranean— and continues our long-term commitment to artistic creation.
ATOPOS cvc premises welcomes the artists Mohamad Abdouni, Mouna Ahizoune and Florencia Rojas for one month residency at ATOPOS cvc in Metaxourgeio between 30 Septmeber and 31 October 2025.
Meet the Artists
Mohamad Abdouni is an artist, photographer, filmmaker and curator based between Beirut and Istanbul. He is also Editor in-Chief and Creative Director of COLD CUTS magazine, the photo journal exploring queer cultures in the SWANA region. As of 2019, he has dedicated his time to working on what is arguably the first archive of trans* histories in an Arab country, a project entitled Treat Me Like Your Mother: Trans* Histories From Beirut’s Forgotten Past. His work has been exhibited namely at the Brooklyn Museum in New York, the FOAM Gallery in Amsterdam, L’Institut du Monde Arab, Art Basel by Paris+ and the Institute of Islamic Culture in Paris, Patel Brown in Toronto, and the Lyon Biennale. He is the recipient of the 2023 LaFayette Anticipations prize at Art Basel. Mohamad’s films have been screened and awarded at festivals such as Eyes Wide Open and the Leeds Queer Film Festival in the UK, IQMF in Amsterdam, The Brooklyn Museum and Woodbury LGBTQ Film Festival in the US, and Pink Apple Schwullesbisches Lesbian & Gay Film Festival in Switzerland. Mouna Ahizoune was born in 1995 in the Middle Atlas. She lives and works in Tangier. Her practice engages with the body and natural materials to explore the human condition through performance, video, photography, and sculpture. Her work focuses on endurance, pain, and silent forms of resistance, revealing the subtle struggles inscribed in bodily gestures and everyday movements. Her work has been presented in several institutions, including Le 18, Morocco (2024), Appartement 22, Morocco (2023). The artist intends to deepen her exploration of the body as a site of memory and transformation through new encounters in Athens.
Florencia Rojas was born in 1984 in Argentina and grew up in Málaga (Spain). She currently lives and works in Madrid. Rojas is a visual artist and researcher whose practice originates in photography and expands into other disciplines such as video art, sculpture, and installation. In recent years, her work has focused on the politics of visibility and invisibility related to historical memory, migration, and spaces of repression, confinement, and punishment. Her work has been presented in numerous institutions including Círculo de Bellas Artes, Spain (2021), CAAC, Spain (2024), Centro Cultural España en Córdoba, Argentina (2013), TEA, Spain (2023), Matadero Madrid, Spain (2023). The artist intends to explore the history and traces of sex work in Metaxourgio, weaving together real and fictional imprints across time. Through speculative history, the project seeks to reimagine these narratives while centering a pro–sex workers’ rights perspective.
About Mediterranean Crossed Residency
As part of the festival, Art Explora and the Island Club are initiating a programme of cross-disciplinary residencies, in partnership with some 15 international residency spaces and cultural institutions around the Mediterranean basin. Supported by the Creative Europe programme, this project aims to support contemporary creation from a transdisciplinary perspective, and to create a solid, interdependent network of cultural partners throughout the region. ATOPOS cvc x Office of Hydrocommons is the partner for Greece.
About ATOPOS cvc x Office of Hydrocommons
The Office of Hydrocommons is a curatorial platform manifesting through exhibitions, international residencies, public programmes, publications and a research office. It investigates critical issues affecting the Mediterranean Sea through interdisciplinary collaborations. Conceived and curated by Eleni Riga, it was initiated following an invitation of Vassilis Zidianakis, Artistic Director of ATOPOS cvc. The platform continues its aquatic journey, building lasting partnerships along the way. Recent collaborations include the Bath House of the Winds (Museum of Modern Greek Culture), All of Greece, One Culture, the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus – Festival of Athens and Epidaurus, Auberge de France in Rhodes, Institut Français de Grèce, Pro Helvetia, Goethe-Institut, among others.
