Focusing on dream states as spaces of interface between nature and our fellow human beings, Karstic Dreams invites audiences into a meaningful state of presence, proposing a return to care, community, and the environment as the ultimate fulfillment of our shared humanity.
The project is curated by Steffi Stouri, in the context of ATOPOS Unbound, and will take the form of performances, educational programs and interventions activating different points of the karst landscape, one of subterranean waters and sinkholes, reminiscent of the now-vanished lake that once formed part of the Orchomenos plains.

The performance CeremonyOfLiquidMemory.com by Angelo Plessas echoes karstic, subterranean topographies and invites participants into a collective ritual centered around a conduit-interface. Through seated circles, sound, and guided meditation, the language of digital culture is transformed into a poetic tool against the attention economy.
This ritual addresses the body as a container, water table and conduit, connecting it with the karstic waters, the optic fibers, the internet and its invisible streams. Through breathing, listening, ingesting and activating the site, the participants become carriers of the vanished lake in the Orchomenos plains.

Across the wider archaeological site, Lydia Delikoura appropriates scientific methodologies throughout the fragments of her visual vocabulary that appear in three installations. Her fragile, labor intensive installations bring into contact different temporalities, exploring the same landscape through the changing seasons.
Referencing herbariums, the scientific collection of preserved plant specimens used to study, identify, and classify plants, as well as makeshift and ephemeral archaeological dwellings, Delikoura enacts an interspecies investigation of the inhabitation of this land. At the same time the scientific methodologies she appropriates juxtaposed with her slow, tender and full of care practice, bring into question knowledge production practices and power relations that shaped disciplines such as archaeology and botany.

The exhibition will also include an educational program designed according to the principles of environmental art and the forest school pedagogical approach.

Departing from Ursula k. Le Guin’s phrase:
Can we learn to pay attention to our own and our children’s dreams, specifically asking, “Where did you fall to, and what did you discover?” the educational program follows a dream-like walk through the landscape where the participants are asked to explore nature through magical, unexpected encounters with Delikoura’s work engaging in a process of meaning-making, where the natural environment becomes a source of inspiration and the artwork itself functions as a bridge between the child’s inner world and the natural world around them.

In the context of the exhibition Karstic Dreams, ATOPOS cvc will be leading an educational programme inspired by the principles of environmental art and forest school.
Over the course of this 90-minute experience, participants will engage in free play and exploration while creating their own field notes, much like artists and scientists. Drawing on the natural materials they collect along the way and their experience of walking through the landscape, they will create an artwork of their own.
The programme encourages children to discover the interconnected languages of botany, archaeology, ornithology, and visual art, revealing them as complementary ways of observing, understanding, and describing the world and our relationship with it.
