ATOPOS cvc supports the curator Eleni Riga for the extension of  the residency within the Institut français x Cité internationale des arts programme, in January 2026.

Riga, a guest curator at ATOPOS cvc since 2022 and curator of the Office of Hydrocommons programme, continues her research initiated in Greece by focusing on ecofeminist art in France.

Her research is grounded in the seminal work of French writer Françoise d’Eaubonne, Le Féminisme ou la Mort, which first introduced the term “ecofeminism” in 1974 and laid the foundations for the connection between ecology and feminism. The book was republished in 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the care crisis, and translated in 2022, rekindling international interest in ecofeminist thought.

At the same time, the research examines the author’s own relationship with art: her painting practice, her studies at the School of Fine Arts, her relationships with artists of her time, as well as the book Histoire de l’art et lutte des sexes, a feminist critique of art history.

Françoise d’Eaubonne: Ecofeminist Practices and Artistic Resonances

This event brings together Eleni Riga, curator and laureate of the residency program Institut français x Cité internationale des arts, and Vincent d’Eaubonne, son of Françoise d’Eaubonne, a catalyst for discussions on maternal heritage, author and co-editor of the website francoise-d-eaubonne.org. Together, they will explore the intellectual and affective legacy of the writer and activist who coined the term “ecofeminism”.

Vincent d’Eaubonne will open this event by speaking about the more intimate aspects of her work: her drawings, her training at the Beaux-Arts, and the ways in which her political engagement extended into a pioneering reading of art history.

Eleni Riga, whose curatorial practice is ecofeminist and rooted in the Mediterranean, will then present the first directions of her research on the renewed interest in ecofeminism in France, as well as its expressions within contemporary artistic and curatorial practices. She will also share her initial findings on the connections between Françoise d’Eaubonne and the feminist artists and curators of her time.
