ATOPOS cvc presents OTHERLANDS a site specific exhibition at the archaeological space of Heraion, Perachora, in the framework of the program of 2024 of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, “All of Greece one Culture”. OTHERLANDS serve as a space of critical encounter with the Other; sculptures by Petros Moris and sonic fiction by Jeph Vanger and Savina Giannatou intertwine, in a resonance of everything that exists and has existed in the land, human and non-human bodies, archaeological remains and geological materials.
Exploring lost stories and connections of pre-archaic history and mythology while maintaining a direct connection to the subterranean, OTHERLANDS is an exploration of otherness in deep time, as a structural component of conflict at both the social and intercultural levels. Deep time is kept by the drift of the tectonic plates and fossil traces of stone-eating animals in the limestone columns of the archaeological space. Within deep time we are able to reimagine historical and contemporary conflicts as we give in to slower processes of making and unmaking.
Unexpected encounters with the sculptures of Petros Moris throughout the archaeological space and above the sea create a pathway that connects demythologized stories with the geo-environment. While in the upper levels of the archaeological space, visitors are invited to engage in multimodal listening, a practice of listening as a situated, full-bodied act. Sound is here understood as an embodied event, providing deeper information on effects and affects of the landscape.
Events
In the context of OTHERLANDS two georoutes and two live music performances will take place, inviting the visitor to engage in somatic practices, hoping to create personal connections of temporality, the landscape and the geo-environment.
The guided geo routes will take place on the 5th of July and the 13th of July at 19:00, in collaboration with Dr. Ioannis Papanikolaou. The geo routes will follow a 40 min walk to the archaeological space from Limni Vouliagmeni as well as a guided tour in the exhibition space.
Reservation for the georoutes required through the following link:
During the live sound performance at the 20th and 21st of July at 19:00, Jeph Vanger will present and activate a sound sculpture delving into the sonic space of the landscape through a tonal synchronization of field recordings, the sound sculpture and the human voice in collaboration with Savina Giannatou, who will be activating and supporting forms of conflict, confrontation and struggle between voices, screams and vibrations.
